Michael Roman Obituary

Roman, Michael W. ONEONTA, N.Y. Michael W. Roman, 84, of Oneonta, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2008 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home surrounded by his family following a long illness. Mike was born September 16, 1923 in Cohoes, N.Y., the son of Joannes and Maria (Gondkovsky) Roman. He married Helena Giroux on October 14, 1950 in St. Marie's Church, Cohoes. Mike worked as an inspector for the ECD Bendix (Amphenol) in Sidney. Prior to that, he worked for the D&HRR as a boilermaker. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and was a member of the IAM Lodge #1529, the American Legion Post #259, and the Disabled American Veterans. Mike enjoyed golf and won many trophies. He loved the special times he spent with his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helena Roman of Oneonta; his daughters, Patricia Rein and her husband Eugene of Rotterdam, N.Y., Kathryn Tsoukatos and her husband Michael of Clarendon, N.Y., Margaret Linkous of Jamestown, N.Y. and Susanne O'Donnell and her husband James of Oneonta. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Roman and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his brothers, Jacob, John and Edward Roman and his grandson, Edward O'Donnell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at St. Mary's Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta with Rev. Edward Golding officiating. Interment will follow with full military honors in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. Friends may call on Friday, August 1, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand Street, Oneonta at which time the family will be in attendance. The family requests donations be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
