Preston Crans Obituary

Crans, Preston MCKOWNVILLE Preston Crans, 93, of McKownville, died Monday, July 28, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after a long illness. Born September 27, 1914 in Germantown, he was the son of the late Milton H. and Edith (Pratt) Crans. Mr. Crans was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church of McKownville, the Jennings-Willet American Legion Post and the Southern Columbia Memorial VFW, both of Germantown. He served as a bombardier in the US Army Air Corps with the 315th Bomb Wing, 16th Bombardment Group that was based in Guam during World War II. He retired as a major from the U.S. Army Air Corps. Surviving are his son, Milton Crans of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Elmer of Arlington (Dutchess Co.); nieces and nephews, Gretchen Crans, David Crans and Winfield Crans, Pat Karsten, Lynne Karsten, Evelyn Petrie, Alfred Karsten and Herb Karsten. Predeceased by his wife, Adelaide Karsten Crans, who died August 21, 2004. Calling hours are 11 a.m. to 12 noon Monday at the Yadack-Fox Funeral Home, 209 Main Street, Germantown. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday, August 4 at the funeral home. The Rev. Russell Craig Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church of McKownville will officiate. Interment will be in the Valley View Cemetery of Germantown with full military honors provided by the Jennings Willet American Legion Post and the Southern Columbia Memorial VFW Post. Mr. & Mrs. Crans were wonderful neighbors and friends. A friendly neighborhood competitor when it came to who had the best lawn! Mr. Crans helped my Mom when she was buying into Woodscape, helped her pick the nicest lot. Lovely people who will be sorely missed in the community.

What a great guy. Taught me how to "turn two" at second base. Drove me to Sunday basketball at the old Guilderland Junior High School. Always had the best lawn in the neighborhood and never said no when asked for a favor. Thanks for everything Pres.
