Kristin Kimberly "Kym" Ierlan

Kristin Ierlan Obituary

Ierlan, Kristin Kimberly "Kym" SARATOGA, N.Y. Kym Ierlan passed away July 31, 2008 due to complications from injuries suffered after falling from a tree.Born in Syracuse, Kym graduated from John C. Birdle-bough High School in Phoenix, N.Y. and recently received her A.S. degree from HVCC in Troy. Kym is the daughter of Thomas and Marcia Ierlan of Phoenix, N.Y.; niece of John and Dot Badger of Massena, N.Y.; baby sister of Mari Magoon of Rensselaer and Shei McDonald of Colonie; and proud aunt to Kerenza Paris McDonald and soon-to-be Emma Kymberly McDonald. It is not how much time that we are given in this life but what we do with the time allotted to us, and Kym lived a very full 25 years of life. Her interests and pursuits were many and varied. She was an avid hiker, fairweather biker, fearless skydiver, enthusiastic whitewater rafter, world traveler and talented artist. When day turned to night, Kym could often be found enjoying live music and socializing with friends. Kym was employed with the T.S.A. at Albany International Airport where she will be missed by the many friends she made over the last several years. In accordance with her wishes, no funeral will be held but instead we invite you to join us in an Irish style wake, a celebration of Kym's life. Family, friends, co-workers and all who loved her are encouraged to attend, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 77 Sherwood Ave., Rensselaer, NY 12144. In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to Habitat for Humanity Inc., 696 Delaware Ave., Albany, NY 12209 in her honor. We love and will miss you dearly Kym. ROCK ON !

I spoke with Kym only once, on the phone, as she called me to inquire into volunteer opportunities with the Samaritans Crisis Hotline in mid July. She was full of energy seemed intent on volunteering - was looking forward to it. She said, "this is something I have wanted to do for a long time." When we spoke of the difficulties of communting from Saratoga to Albany to volunteer, she assured me positively that there would be no issue. From the little I knew about Kym, she is someone I would have loved to have met and worked with. She is missed in our current training class, which began with out her earlier this month. Kym thank you for your enthusiasm to help others and we are so sorry you could not join us.

Kym, You have no idea how shocked I was to come back from vacation and hear about what happened. I will miss seeing your smiling face at the airport in our bag room and miss complaining about how much we hate people who pack their entire wardrobe to go on vacation for a few days. Your personality was so vivid and happy and although I didn't know you for very long I'll always remember you for the amazing person you were and for being the girl who taught me how to make at least 10 new shots in one hour! Good times, although they were few in number. You will be missed by all!

Marcia, Tom, Mari & Shannon,
Please accept my sincerest condolences. I am deeply saddened to hear of Kym's passing. Although I have not been in touch in years, I feel like I am one of the lucky ones whose life was touched by knowing this very special girl.

my dear sweet kym. i have been reading this and looking at your photos for days and yet it still feels so unreal that you are gone. it feels like just yesterday i was alone the night before my birthday and you came and picked me up. i thought friday's would flip when you brought in a candle and lighter of your own so you could sing to me. i treasure each moment i knew you and regret not taking better advantage of having you as my friend. i will miss you each day until i get to see your beautiful face again. you were a gorgeous person inside and out and i only hope that you finally see yourself through my eyes and that you can appreciate the amazing woman that you have always been. words cannot express how much i miss and love you. it was an honor to meet your family and share my memories of you, i only wish that it had been under different circumstances.

goodbye my dear friend. may you watch over us and allow us to live out your dreams for you. i love you dearly and will hold you in my heart always.

I worked with Kym at the Airport and I left there in May. I was shocked and saddened to hear of her accident. She always made me laugh even when I was on a double shift and exhausted. She had a beautiful smile. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.

Kym, I asked God why there isn't a law that parents should always pass on first; and, my answer was clearly sent. "Love knows no age. Love gives in any way it can, to whoever may need it, no matter how much we may hurt inside ourselves." Only Soul knows and understands what this is truly about. You didn't realize it at the time; but, you were truly living in Soul. And, now the journey goes on......Please know how much we Love & miss you!!!!!!!!!!!

At 'the local' we were all shocked and saddened by the news. All of us talked with Kym at one time or another. She wandered in one day and we snatched her right up and she joined our club. We were glad to have her! Her individuality and unique style will certainly be missed.

Kym, I only knew you for a short time while working with you at ALB; but your big, beautiful smile always brightened my days. I am so proud of you that you lived your life full of all the things you loved to do! I'll always remember your hug when I left TSA and how we both cried. I am sad for I will miss you, but I will always remember your smiling face. I know that your family will take comfort in having the wonderful memories that they have all made with you! Any person who crossed paths with you are fortunate to have known you and now you are safe in heaven guiding us with your shining smile. I thank God for knowing you and God bless your family. Love ya and miss ya Kym!
Love, Pam

Kym, I miss you very much. I've never met anyone who appreciated every moment of every day the way you did. Thank you for hanging out with me and letting your light shine on me. Thank you for all the great memories you have left me. I will never forget you. If I’m lucky enough to make it into heaven, please save me a seat at the bar. I’ll buy.

You will always be my baby sister and no matter what a pain and a punk you would be I always admired your free spirit and love for life. I am glad you lived it exactly how you wanted. This is one adventure you will have before me and I'll be asking YOU for directions when I get there. Fly free my little bird and I'll know that you're flying alongside us all...

KYM I know the last time we saw each other we didn't have a lot of time to talk. However, my last memory of you was of me picking you up and giving you a big hug. I guess it was the best goodbye between friends. You were like a kid sister to me. You know you left us way too early. Rest now....and know you were loved.
