Helen Simatos Obituary

Simatos, Helen (Haita) Philipps TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. Helen Simatos, 95, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Tarpon Bayou Center. Born in Watervliet, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Kleoniki Gournaris Haita. She was the wife of the late Gerasamos (Jerry) Simatos whom she wed in 1975. They retired to Holiday, Fla. a few years later. She was employed as a secretary by the American Lung Assoc. of the Capital District. Prior to that, she and her first husband Nick Philipps operated the Atomic Restaurant located at the corner of Hudson Ave. and S. Hawk St., Albany, N.Y., until his death in 1958. While living in Albany, she was a member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church where she was a past-president of the Daughters of Penelope, a member of the Ladies Philopto-chos Society and church choir. Survivors include her sister, Eugenia Percendes Montayne; nieces, Joanne DeGraff, Bonni Garvey, Cleo Whitney, Marguerite Clairmont; and sister-in-law, Sophia Haita; also survived by her stepdaughter, Maria Pappas Keramas and her children, Stathis Pappas, Stavula Dean, Jerry and Eleni Pappas; and several great-grandchildren, grandnieces and nephews and many cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Vassili Haita and her stepson, Nick Simatos. Funeral and interment took place in Florida. Arrangements by Thomas B.
