Joseph Edwards Obituary

Edwards, Joseph H. COLONIE Joseph H. Edwards, age 87, entered into eternal life Saturday, August 2, 2008 at his home with his daughters by his side. Joe was born in Coxsackie, N.Y., January 17, 1921, son of the late Hillary C. and Maude Day Edwards. He was employed by the Tobin First Prize Meat Packing Co. for over 30 years before retiring. He loved camping, fishing, and hunting with his children and grandkids. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed playing solitaire. Gramps will be remembered as a hard worker that was always there to lend a helping hand to everyone. Joe served in the Army during World War II with Co. F. 357th Infantry 90th Regiment as a rifleman. He served in France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany, where he was wounded in action. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal, European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with Bronze Campaign Stars, the American Theatre Ribbon, the Victory Ribbon and the Conspicuous Service Cross. Joe is a life member of the Rev. F. A. Kelly Chapter 38 Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Joseph E. Zalog Post #1520 American Legion. Beloved husband of the late Adele Villeneuve Edwards; loving father of Odella Rogers (E. Harold) of Colonie, June Haas (Jacob) of West Albany, Susan Howe (Harold) of Wynantskill, and Julie Winters (Peter) of Saratoga Springs. He is also survived by his cherished 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his daughter-in-law Deidre Clothier. Joe was predeceased by his son, Robert Edwards; his brother, Elmer B. Edwards; and his sister, Inez Card; one grandson and one great-granddaughter. A service of memory will be held in the Lasak & Gigliotti Funeral Home, 8 Dudley Heights, (Northern Blvd.), Albany, Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may also call at the funeral home Wednesday after 4:00 p.m. Private inurnment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuyler-ville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Joe's memory may be made to Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
