Rosemary Zweig Obituary

Zweig, Rosemary GUILDERLAND Rosemary Biggi Zweig died at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center on August 9, 2008. Born May 13, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Frederic A. and Mary Dugan Biggi, and the wife of Judge Morris J. Zweig, who died in 1979. Mrs. Zweig graduated from the former Vincentian Institute and the New York State College for Teachers in Albany and earned a master's degree in education from Columbia University. She had been employed by the state of New York, serving in the office of the Governor's Counsel before transferring to the state court system. She served as a clerk to the chief justice of the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals, from which she retired in 1969. Following their retirement, Rosemary and her husband moved to Landrum, S.C., where they shared an interest in raising and training Paso Fino horses. After Morris died in 1979, Rosemary returned to Loudonville in 1980 and has resided in Beverwyck since 1993. Rosemary was predeceased by her brother, John F. Biggi and his wife, Constance MacVean Biggi; and by her dear cousins, Kathryn F. Minnock and Margaret A. Minnock. She is survived by her nephew, Ian M. Biggi, his wife Sandra; and their three daughters, Kristina Hill (Frank) and their children, Amy Beth Distefano (Steven) and Kara Birget Colevas (Paul); and by her cousins, Elizabeth Minnock Klein (the late Charles T.), Mary Minnock Burkard (Robert L.) and their family, Margaret Lanahan Kowalski (Charles J.) and their family, M. Peter Lanahan (Maureen) and their family; and by her sisters-in-law, Anne Zweig and her family; Felice Zweig and her family; and the family of the late Betty Zweig Morqolis; and by many dear relatives and friends, especially Theodore G. Caldes and his wife Mary Alice. The family is grateful to Debbie Karlquist, Rosemary's longtime caregiver, and the staff of Our Lady of Mercy Life Center for their wonderful care of Rosemary. Funeral Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. from the St. Pius X Church, 23 Crumitie Rd., Loudonville. At Rosemary's request, there will be no calling hours. I am sorry for your loss. Rosemary was my Aunt Betty's roommate at Mercy Life Center. Rosemary passed on Saturday (8/9), Aunt Betty passed on Monday (8/11). They both received the anointing of the sick on 7/22 when, upon our request, Stan Webster (Chaplin) from Mercy Life Center called St. Pius, to administer Last Rights to Aunt Betty. Little did we know at the time they were both strong women. They both held jobs in a man's world when it wasn't common. Neither had children, both lived in Loudenville, both had outlived their husbands, and were parishoners of the same parish. God had put them together for the final stretch of their rewarding lives. My condolence to her family, I'm sure you're at peace knowing she's at rest.

Rosemary became my friend when I was about 4 years old when we first moved to Loudonville. I have too many wonderful memories of her to count. She is always in my thoughts and in my heart and I am so fortunate to have known her. Thank you, Rosemary, for being my friend.

We will definitely miss seeing and talking with Aunt Rosemary. She certainly was one of a kind with her wonderfully sharp wit, intellect and general observations about the world around her. We always looked forward to her advice, insights and compassion about events, people and problems of the day. A confident woman beyond her time. With great love, Francine and Harry Margolius

Aunt Rho was a brilliant woman with a great sense of humor. She was witty and loved a good debate with my Gram (her sister in law.) I remember visiting Aunt Rho's home as a girl and feeling like it was a terrific museum, with so many wonderful things to explore! May you rest in peace...we love you, Aunt Rho.

Birgit and I have many happy memories of Aunt Rho--how she enjoyed my teasing her and she would give it right back. She will certainly be missed.

Aunt Rosemary was a woman of great wit, had a kind and gentle way about her and a powerful intellect. She was a woman ahead of her time and a person we all should aspire to be.
