Anna Smith Obituary

Smith, Anna May COHOES Anna May Smith, 88, formerly of Cohoes, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2008 after a long illness. She was born at home in Albany, the daughter of the late John P. Casey and Catherine 'Kate' Barnett Casey who immigrated from Marysbor-o, County Laois, Ireland in 1907. She was educated at St. Joseph's Academy and worked for the D&H Railroad for 25 years, retiring in 1982. She was the sister of the late John H., Thomas, Bernard, Joseph and Elizabeth Casey. She was also predeceased by her lifelong best friend, Irene Lumley. She was married for 41 years to the late James Smith. She is survived by her children, Mary Beth (Alfred) Garrison, Keith James Smith and Catherine (Steven) Vagle. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jean Smith; dear friend, Alice Habura; several nieces, nephews. She loved doing counted cross- stitch, bird watching, sports especially basketball and the New York Yankees, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and Hot Fudge Sundaes. She will be missed by her grand dogs, Quincy and Sophie. She was a fighter to the end, never complaining. She maintained her sweet disposition and her kindness towards others. She loved her children unconditionally and they loved her deeply. We will miss her sparkling Irish blue eyes, sweet temperament and never ending sense of humor. We were lucky to have been blessed with such a wonderful mother. We have the comfort in knowing her aches and pains have ended and she is now enjoying the laughter and joy of being reunited with her loving husband, James and her family that awaited her return to their loving arms in Heaven. Our family would like to thank the staff of 3 Springs Wesley Healthcare Center for their wonderful care during this past year. Funeral Wednesday 10:00 a.m. at the Dufresne Funeral Home, Inc., 216 Columbia Street, Cohoes with Rev. Nick TeBordo officiating. Interment in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Anna May's memory to the United Church of Cohoes, 123 Mohawk Street, Cohoes, NY 12047. Mary Beth, Cathy & Keith,
I am so sorry for your mother's passing. She was the sweetest woman I have ever met & the only one to make me cry on my wedding day. To see her sitting outside the church when I pulled up in the limo was the best gift I received. She is a part of my childhood memories and they will be with me forever. You are so lucky to have her as your mom for so long...
