James Weiss Obituary

Weiss, James E. BRUNSWICK James E. Weiss, 72, of West Road Brunswick Hills died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Eddy Heritage House Nursing Center after a brief illness. Born in Valley Falls, he was son of the late Bernard M. Weiss Sr. and Theresa (Sweet) Weiss and husband of Michele Lalanne Weiss. Raised in Valley Falls, he also resided in Oswego, Pittstown for 18 years and since 1982 in Brunswick Hills. Jim was a graduate of Troy High School and attended Albany Business College, Siena College and various financial institutes including the College for Financial Planning in Denver, Colo. He held various financial accreditations. He was a certified financial planner and president of James E. Weiss, Inc. in Troy since 1969. An active communicant of Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy and a Eucharistic Minister, he also was on various boards and the Parish Council of St. George's Church in Pittstown and boards of St. Anthony Shrine Church in Troy. He was involved in financial organizations including a past president of the NYS Society of Public Accountants. Jim was active in civic organizations including past president of Bethany Hospitality House in Troy, the former Troy Club and a former member of the Taconic Kiwanis and Troy Rotary. He was an Army veteran stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Jim enjoyed camping at Lake George, and fireplace cooking with cast iron pots. Survivors in addition to his wife include a brother, Eddie (Helen) Weiss of Nassau; his mother-in-law, Mildred A. Lalanne of Troy; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cynthia (Ed) Campbell of L.I., Jeffrey (Janet) Lalanne of Pittsburgh and Betty M. (Roy) Herrington of Johnsonville; and nieces and nephews, Nancy Newton, Barbara (Larry) Pleiman, Robert, Ann and Joseph Weiss and Edward (Donna) Weiss and several cousins. He made many friends along the way including a best friend, Lionel (Betsy) Landry of California. He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph M., Bernard M. Jr. and John Weiss. Jim will be dearly missed by Bonnie and Barney his faithful companions. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at Bryce Funeral Home, Inc. 276 Pawling Avenue, Troy and 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Randall Patterson, Pastor. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Troy. Contributions may be made in memory of James E.
