Joanne Joyce Obituary

Joyce, Joanne M. SCHROON LAKE Joanne M. Joyce, 80, passed away suddenly August 12, 2008 at her home on Cedar Hill Drive with her grandson at her side. She was born January 27, 1928 in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Josephine Visher VanGalen. She lived in Albany until she relocated to her summer home in Schroon Lake in 1993. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946. She was employed by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles for many years and worked at Duracolor Photo Finishing until her retirement in 1993. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Bruno. Joanne was a very special person who dedicated her entire life to caring for her daughter with special needs. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren who lived next door and visited every day. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Donald P. Joyce of Schroon Lake; her daughters, Joann Joyce of Schroon Lake, Linda Joyce and Dan Hughes of Albany and Judy Joyce of Schroon Lake; her grandchildren, Dana and Jerry Smith of Schroon Lake; her sister, Josephine Frodigh of Cape Cod, Mass.; her brother, John VanGalen of Albany; several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning, August 16, at 11:00 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 607 Central Ave. in Albany. Joanne requested there be no viewing. The family suggests memorials take the form of donations to the Schroon Lake Rescue Squad or Fire Department, Schroon Lake, NY 12870.
