Vincent Zielnicki Obituary

Zielnicki, Vincent S. MECHANICVILLE Vincent S. Zielnicki, 72, of North Fourth Ave., died Thursday morning, August 21, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after being stricken at home. Born in Brooklyn, June 25, 1936, son of the late Vincent and Mary Zielnicki, Vince and family moved to Mechanicville, where he was educated in the local schools, and lived here the rest of his life. After high school, Vince joined the US Army and served with the 57th Tank Battalion in Germany. Vince took a disability retirement from the Boston and Maine Railroad, where he was a car inspector in Mechanicville for 13 years. Previously he had been the night crew chief for the Central/Price Chopper Markets for 13 years. A model train enthusiast, Vince also enjoyed horse racing and his visits to the local OTB, and was an amateur collector of a lot of "stuff." Shy was not one of Vince's assets. He could liven up a room quickly, with his humor, wit and sarcasm, qualities that endured him to so many friends. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, or as Vince was often heard to say, "forever," Carol Ann DeMartino Zielnicki; his three children, Nancy and husband Kevin McCormack, Daniel and wife Joan Zielnicki, Carole Ann and husband Donald Moore, all of Mechanicville; his grandchildren, Daniel and Benjamin McCormack, Matthew and Adam Zielnicki, Donald Jr., Conrad and Cassandra Moore; and a great-grandson Julian; also survived by his brother, Joseph and wife, Joan Zielnicki of Mechanicville; and nephews David and Thomas Zielnicki and niece Lynne Miclette; along with many friends and neighbors. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville. Burial with military honors in the Saratoga National Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to either the John Ahearn Rescue Squad, Mechanicville or Animal Health Center, 1656 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.

Dear Carol,
I was so sorry to hear about Vinnie's passing. And especially so because of the long association of living accross the street for so many years. The DeMartino family were so special to the Weigles. It's always so hard to work through such sadness but, ultimately it's the memories that sustain us and give everyone future good feelings.
