Catherine Valente Obituary

Valente, Catherine B. WATERVLIET Catherine B. Valente, 81, who resided at Second Avenue, Watervliet, entered peacefully into eternal life Thursday evening, September 4, 2008 at the Community Hospice of Rensselaer County at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness. Born on April 10, 1927, in Watervliet, she was the daughter of the late Luigi and Theresa Marro Barney (Bolani) and the devoted wife of the late Frank P. Valente, who passed away February 23, 1995. Catherine was a 1945 graduate of Watervliet High School as well as a graduate of the Albany Stenotype School where she was elected president of the Student Secretarial Society. Upon completion of her education, she was employed by W. L. Coughtry, an art supply store in Albany, where for eight years she enjoyed (and often reminisced about) her work as a secretary and sales associate before raising a family with her husband Frank. A homemaker for the majority of her life, Catherine was a devoted and loving wife and mother who cherished her family. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Brigid's Church, Watervliet. She is survived by her beloved children, Gina Valente Toniatti and her husband Daniel of Speigletown and Bernard F. Valente and his wife Carol Crudo Valente of Clifton Park; her cherished grandchildren, Catherine T. Toniatti of Speigletown, Francesco B. Valente and Michael A. Valente of Clifton Park, SSG Jeffrey T. Toniatti (Melissa) of Germany, and Heather L. Soule (Kevin) of Massachusetts; six precious great-grandchildren; her much-loved siblings, Philomena Barney Manzerra (Frank) of Latham, Francisco Barney (Rose Dorr) of Latham; and Nina M. Barney of Watervliet. She is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m., Monday, September 8, from Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, and at 9:30 a.m. from St. Brigid's Church, Fourth Avenue, Watervliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery in Menands. Friends and relatives are invited and may call at the funeral home on Sunday, September 7, from 3 to 7 p.m. For those who wish, contributions may be made to St. Brigid's Church or The Association of Marian Helpers, Stockbridge, MA 01263, in memory of Catherine B. Valente.
