James Doring Obituary

Doring, James L. NORTH GREENBUSH James L. Doring, 85, of North Greenbush passed away peacefully on October 12, 2008, at the Van Rensselaer Manor, where he had resided for several months. Born March 11, 1923, in Troy, he was the son of Lewis and Kathryn (Bradley) Doring. He graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School, and was a proud graduate of LaSalle Institute, class of 1942. During World War II, Jim served as a Navy navigator on the USS U.S. Grant and was aboard in 1943 when she participated in operations to recapture the islands of Attu and Kiska. He later served on the USS Amsterdam during action in the Pacific. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with two Stars, the Victory Medal and the American Theatre Medal in service to his nation. On October 6, 1951, he married Eunice Anne Myers, who survives at the Van Rensselaer Manor; they are the proud parents of five children, Diane M. Doring of Defreestville, Cynthia A. (and Brien) Hollowood of Saratoga Springs, Denise D. VanBuren of Chelsea, James M. (and Gina) Doring of Wynantskill, and Colleen A. (and Rocco) D'Amico of Watertown, Conn.; he will also be remembered with love by 11 adoring grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, who were the joy of his life. Jim was predeceased by four brothers, Bradley, Raymond, Arthur and John (Jack). Jim was a Wise Foods distributor, and later spent 15 years as the head of security at the Holiday Inn of Saratoga Springs. He was a member of American Legion Post 1489 of Wynantskill. He loved a good day of golf, a great day at the racetrack and every day with his family. Funeral will be from W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer, Thursday morning at 8:30 and 9:30 at St. Michael the Archangel Church Williams Road, North Greenbush where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.
