Mary M. Gilbert

Gilbert, Mary M. RENSSELAER Mary Margaret (Morrissey) Gilbert, 98, of Rensselaer, died Sunday, October 19, 2008 after a brief illness. Born in Barker, N.Y., she had been a resident of the Capital Region for many years. Mary was the office manger at Ashland Chemical Co. in Rensselaer for 47 years prior to her retiring. Mary was 100 % Irish and was proud of it. She had been a member of Court San Salvadore, Catholic Daughters of America #146, and past regents of CDA, Southern Rensselaer Business and Professional Women, St. John's Rosary and Altar Society, charter member of Rensselaer Elks Auxiliary #2073, AARP and Senior Citizens of Rensselaer, an active member of St. John's the Evangelist Church in Rensselaer. Mary also worked on the voting polls, was a notary public and an avid Mets fan. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Flora (Monahan) Morrissey and her husband, Stafford Gilbert. Survived by several cousins and several nieces and nephews from her husband's side of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral 9:30 a.m. Saturday from the Rockefeller Funeral Home, 165 Columbia Tpk., Rensselaer, N.Y. and 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. John's the Evangelist, Herrick St., Rensselaer, where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be celebrated. Friends may call in the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Greenbush, N.Y. It has been requested that those who wish to remember Mary make memorial contributions to St. John's the Evangelist Church, Herrick St., Rensselaer, NY 12144 in her memory.
