Janice Lepore Obituary

Lepore, Janice M. MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. Janice M. Lepore died early Tuesday morning, October 21, 2008 at the Hospice of Charleston Hospice House on Wando Park Boulevard in Mount Pleasant. She was 66 years old. She was born on April 1, 1942 in Waterford, N.Y. to Thomas and Hazel Larkin, both of whom predeceased her. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Frank Carl Lepore Jr. of Mount Pleasant; her brother and his wife, James and Susan Larkin of Clifton Park, N.Y.; her husband's sisters and their husbands, Holly and Gilbert Bierman of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Pamela and William Palmer of Chino Hills, Calif.; her daughter and her husband, Colleen and Perrin Dargan of Mount Pleasant; her son and his wife, Gregg and Laura George of Chicago, Ill.; her four grandchildren, Sanders and Annie Dargan of Mount Pleasant and Jackson and Spencer George of Chicago; and her niece, Jinna Larkin of Clifton Park. Mrs. Lepore devoted much of her energy to protecting those who could not protect themselves. She had an abiding love of animals, particularly dogs, and was active with Grateful Goldens Rescue of the Lowcountry. Her rescue work led to the adoption of scores of abandoned dogs, many of which she and her husband personally fostered. Another of her favorite charities was the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. to which she contributed frequently. St. Jude specializes in the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Mrs. Lepore loved her grandchildren and was extremely proud of them, spending as much time with them as she could. Her relationship with them was best captured when her granddaughter once introduced her as "her elderly friend." She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, especially her four grandchildren. The family plans a private ceremony, but will receive guests from 4 o'clock p.m. until 7 o'clock p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Mrs. Lepore's daughter's home at 768 Post Oak Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Grateful Goldens Rescue of the Lowcountry, 1406 Waterlilly Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464 (http://www.ggrlc.org/) and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 (www.stjude.org) A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com

Colleen & Gregg,
I am so so sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. She was truly one of the funniest people I've ever met and I will never forget the times we had at yours & the Gagnon's house in Speigletown when we were "kids." I'm sure she touched many lives throughout her life. Take care.
