Ferriero, Margaret ALPLAUS Margaret Ferriero, 78, of Alplaus, N.Y. and Barefoot Bay, Fla., passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 peacefully in her Alplaus home with her children at her side after a long battle with lung cancer. She was born, raised and attended school in Ravena, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Patrick Anthony Ferriero and Ann Marie Dean. She was predeceased by her brothers, Salvator (Sonny) Ferriero, Anthony (Junie) Ferriero, Angelo Ferriero, Carmen Ferriero; her sisters, Constance (Connie) Gettings, Antonette (Nettie) Blood and Mary Eaton. In the 1960s, Margaret was instrumental in helping establish one of the areas first figure salons before fitness centers were in vogue. As a health enthusiast and fitness instructor, she was seen exercising and discussing health issues weekly on local Capital District television. Margaret was a women of exceptional beauty and a homemaker of remarkable skill. She loved decorating and turned every home she lived in into a showplace. She enjoyed dining out, sitting by the ocean, decorating, gardening, doing crossword puzzles and shopping. Margaret was a loving mother and nanny to her children and grandchildren who will all carry fond memories of the many trips to Disneyland, the ocean, Busch Gardens, Sea World, Universal Studios, or just hanging out with her at home. Margaret leaves behind her son, Alfred Valentini Jr. and his wife Maria of Utica, N.Y.; her daughter, Kathleen Boyle and husband Michel McGarry of Alplaus; her son, Patrick Valentini and his fiancee Sheryl Anderson of Palm Bay, Fla.; her brother, Peter Ferriero and his wife Betty; sister, Jane (Jennie) Persico; and four beautiful grandchildren, Jennifer Radtke, Ashley Boyle, Patrick Valentini Jr. and Arianna Valentini. Her family would like to thank the oncology and radiology staff of Riverview Cancer Care of Rexford and Margaret's Community Hospice team and their kind volunteers. We talked, cried, laughed, you even sand to us. Without your support and compassion in helping Margaret through this difficult past year, her family would have been lost. in our mother's words "you are all angels". Also, the family extends its gratitude to her neighbors and friends in Barefoot Bay for their cards, phone calls, and for keeping Margaret in their thoughts and prayers. In keeping with Margaret's wishes, memorial services will be held in private. Any memorial contributions in memory of Margaret may be made to her lifelong charity at St. Jude Children's Hospital, St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St. Schenectady, NY 12308. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Glenville Funeral Home of Scotia-Glenville, N.Y.
