Ernest Naylor Obituary

Naylor, Ernest J. WYNANTSKILL Ernest J. Naylor, age 88, beloved husband of Thelma M. Abbott Naylor, died on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Springs Nursing and Rehab Center in Troy. Born in Yonkers, he was the son of the late Leon and Lillian Cackett Naylor. He attended schools in Poestenkill and Troy High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II as an aviation ordanceman, third class receiving the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. He was owner and operator of Naylor Brothers Excavating Contractors and he was also an excavator for the former Valente Brothers Excavating, both in Wynantskill. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 106, Albany, former president of the Tri-County Excavating Assn., charter member of the American Legion #1489 in Wynantskill and a 50 year member and former deacon of the Third Presbyterian Church in Troy. He also preached part time at the Baptist Church in Poestenkill and was a member of the Brunswick Grange. In addition to his wife, Mr. Naylor is survived by two daughters, Jane (Lloyd) Allen of Milford, N.Y. and Diana (Frank) Gaetano of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Cynthia Scramlin of Milford and Ronald Scramlin of Cherry Valley, N.Y. He is predeceased by a sister, Dora Abbott and two brothers, Edward and Leon (Bud) Naylor Jr. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be from the Thomas S. Connolly Funeral Home on Wednesday at 11:45 a.m. and at 12:30 p.m. at the Third Presbyterian Church, 113 Winter St., Troy with Rev. John McAuley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory's Garden Cemetery, Colonie. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, 4 to 8 p.m. Contributions to the Third Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 113 Winter St., Troy, NY 12180 in memory of Mr. Naylor would be appreciated.
