Dwight Calkins Obituary

Calkins, Dwight CLIFTON PARK Dwight Fremont Calkins, 73, of Clifton Park, N.Y., passed away at home on Friday, October 24, 2008 in the presence of his loving family. He was born in Palmer, Mass., the son of Mary and Walter Calkins; he was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Calkins and sister, Beverly Calkins. Dwight graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a B.S. in electrical engineering. He worked for Hamilton Standard in Conn. before moving to Schenectady, where he retired from General Electric/ Bechtel in 1998. He and his wife moved to Leesburg, Fla. where he began his long battle with cancer. Dwight is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janice Kerr Calkins of North Adams, Mass. He leaves behind a daughter and two sons, Joy Pritchard and husband Paul Pritchard of Clifton Park, N.Y., Dwight F. Calkins Jr. and wife Renee Calkins of Rotterdam, N.Y., Jeffrey Calkins and wife Jacqueline Calkins of Blossvale, N.Y. and seven grandchildren. Dwight spent his married life as a devoted husband and father. He loved the outdoors and most family events were spent camping and hiking. His favorite sport with which he became an avid sportsman was golfing. Dwight will be forever missed by his family and friends, but never forgotten. A special thanks to Dr. Harry Dunn of New York Oncology/ Hematology and Hospice of Schenectady for their loving care and emotional support which enabled Dwight to pass from this earth in peace. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Bond Funeral Home, Broadway and Guilderland Avenue in Schenectady at 6 p.m. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. -4:00 p.m. prior to the service and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. following the service. In lieu of flowers, please donate blood to the American Red Cross or to Community Hospice, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in Dwight's memory.
