Frank Bossidy Obituary

Bossidy, Frank R. POESTENKILL Frank R. Bossidy, 81, of Flint Drive, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Frank ended his courageous 14 year battle with lung cancer. Born in Hoosick Falls, Frank was the son of the late Bart and Mary Ruth Barden Bossidy and the beloved husband for 56 years of Kay Momrow Bossidy. At the age of 17, Frank enlisted in the Navy, serving during World War II aboard the USS Reynolds destroyer escort in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged with a rank of fireman. Frank retired in 1988 from the Grand Union Company after 33 years where he had been a tractor trailer driver. He had resided in Poestenkill since 1934. Frank's greatest passion was volunteering his time for area organizations. He was a life member of the Poestenkill Fire Co. and had served on the dinner committee, was a past captain of the rescue squad and was a longtime chairman of the bingo. Frank was the chairman of the board of directors during the construction of the "new" firehouse and was thrilled to see that project paid off ahead of schedule. Frank was also a life member of the Brunswick Elks Lodge and was the former longtime chairman of the Bell Jar. He was named Elk of the Year in 1992. Frank was a charter and life member of the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill. He had served with the 105th Infantry 205 Tank Battallion and the 210 Armor Battallion of the National Guard from 1947-1978. Frank was named Poestenkill Citizen of the Year in 1972 and in 1998, was honored with a testimonial dinner by the three organizations he had devoted his time to. Frank was also a communicant of St. Henry's Church in Averill Park, a member of the Mark 20 Sportsman's Club, the Rensselaer County Fire Chiefs Association, Destroyer Escort Sailors Assoc. and the Charles Brady American Legion in Waterford. Survivors in addition to his wife include his loving daughters, Barbara (Ken) Longacker of East Greenbush and Nancy (Doug) Rogers of Eagle Mills; his brother, T. William (Gloria) Bossidy of Poestenkill and his cherished grandchildren, Jennifer Longacker of Boston, Kelly Longacker of East Greenbush and Michael Rogers of Eagle Mills. Frank's family wishes to thank Dr. Charles Weissman, Dr. David Strumpf, Dr. John O'Bryan, Dr. Stanley Dziuban, the Samaritan Hospital Cancer Treatment Center and their staffs for the care and compassion given to Frank over the past 14 years. Frank's funeral will be Thursday 10 a.m. at St. Henry's Church, Co. Rte. 45, Averill Park where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Frank was an inspiration to me. He was a hard working member that would never quit. He took Bell Jar from nothing to a major contributor. That is why he was my Elk of the Year.
