Douglas Bonk Obituary

Bonk, Douglas P. BALLSTON LAKE Douglas P. Bonk, 57, Of Ballston Lake, passed away Monday, October 22, 2007 at his home. Born in Schenectady, December 28, 1949, he was the son of the late Raymond C. Bonk and Rita Bonk-Thackeray. Doug was a graduate of Shenen-dehowa High School. He worked for Niskayuna Schools. Doug was a graduate of the Railroad Institute in North Florida, Lincoln Welding School in Ohio and San Jacinto College in Texas where he studied advanced welding and psychometrics. He was a machinist, plant engineer, pipe fitter and millwright for Amoco in Texas. He enjoyed model railroads, sailing, skiing and outdoor activities. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Edward Thackeray and his stepsister, Patricia Thackeray. He is survived by his two daughters, Katie and Kelly Bonk of Glens Falls; sister, Margaret Hilson of Bovina Center; two brothers, Kevin Bonk of Billings, Mont. and David Bonk of Ballston Lake; two stepbrothers, John Thackeray of Cape Cod, Mass. and Edward Thackeray of Malta; two stepsisters, Delia Thackeray and Ann Drew, both of Fountain Valley, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, October 27, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. Calling hours will precede the service from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 or American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.

I knew Doug 'back in the day' - the 1970's. He was a warm, caring, generous and fun loving person. His spirit will be missed. I am sorry for the Bonk family's loss.
