Peter came to live with us in our communal home on Lakeshore Dr, Burlington Ontario. Peter and I would wrestle from time to time and I would take him on jogs with me. Unfortunately he couldn't keep up because of his asthma ,,,loved Humble ...what he was known as in the 70s

Pete was on my list of people to call soon. I have purchased three pianos from him and never knew when he would call to say he had another Steinway for me to "get to know a little bit." I can imagine he was a wonderful teacher, though I didn't know him in that capacity. At first he was a business contact, and then I considered him my friend. I was looking forward to some of those road trips to "audition" another piano. He will be missed by so many. My deepest sympathies go out to all of his family, colleagues, students and friends.

Mr. Hume was my 10th grade teacher at Schuylerville High School. At first I was kind of intimidated by him, but I soon realized that his heart was as big as he was. He was the nicest and sweetest man I've ever met. He was still always happy to see me and chat after 10th grade, and after I graduated. Mr. Hume was an amazing teacher and an amazing man, and he will surely be missed.

I had Mr. Hume for social studies in 9th grade in 1992-93. I always laughed at his jokes and he was always ready to chit chat in the halls to see how my life was going, even after he was no longer my teacher. I saw him not too long ago this summer for the first time in years and he was the same old Mr. Hume, so nice and eager to talk and see what I had been up to, laughing at me chasing my kids aroud the store. He was a great person. I am so sorry for your loss.

I had Mr. Hume as my 10th grade social studies teacher. It was an honor to have him as a teacher. I remember always sitting in his chair when we watched movies and watching him make faces at us while we were taking tests. Once somebody noticed he was doing it, he'd turn right around in his chair, and face his computer like nothing had happened.
There are too many memories this school has of Mr.Hume to list. If the staff and students know me well, they know I'm ALWAYS wandering the halls. Mr.Hume was always friendly in saying, "Hey, kid!" and ask how I was doing, and I know I was not the only person he did this too. He was friendly to everybody.
Schuylerville School will never be the same without him.
"The best man to ever wander the halls."
We miss you Mr.Hume.
Rest in Peace.

I had Mr. Hume as a teacher in 9th grade social studies in Stillwater. Social studies was never a favorite subject of mine, but Mr. Hume was there to get me through it. I was so excited about walking into his classroom on the first day of 9th grade. We already knew what to expect from each other. My father and my brother, Bruce, always talked very highly about him. He was the best teacher and an amazing man. I never forgot his smile and his sense of humor. My family has always loved Mr. Hume. We will never forget him. Our thought and prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathy go out to the entire Hume family. Mr. Hume was my daughter's teacher a few years ago and I had the honor of meeting him, at his request. He cared deeply for his students and pushed them to do the best he knew they could do. He had his own gentle way of doing that and it worked. Every time I saw him in the hall after that, he seemed to remember who I was and always said hello. My son is a student now at SCS and spoke of the time Mr. Hume got in the elevator with him and began jumping up and down saying "isn't this fun". At his size, it made the ride a little scary but he would just laugh. He will be greatly missed and the entire school community shares your loss. God must have a bigger job for him to do. Thank you for sharing him with us all. Deeanne MacDonald

As parent of a Schuyerville student the impression this man has left on these young impressionable children is just amazing. It melts my heart to know the memories and love that has been left with these students by this obviously outstanding man. Thank you for sharing this wonderful part of your family for so many years to these children.

Mr.Hume was a wonderful man and a fantastic teacher. He not only strived to keep his students. To his expectations but to live up to what we expected from him. With an open mind and a great sense of humor he tought his student with the utmost respect. He was always joking and loved to pull pranks on other teachers. Somedays he would stand outside classrooms and taunt the students with signs sayimg how boring their class was. He deeply cared for us. On the third day of school most teachers would say " It's Joe, right?" but as i waited for class Mr.Hume would say " So tell me Joe how is life going for you and do you like 10th grade?" He loved his students and suported them with anythimg they tried. One of his classes tryed to get recyling bins put in every classroom to save paper. He taught us the steps we would need to get it through the schools system and how proud he was that we were trying to make a difference. He showed us how to live life to the fullest. If I could live as wonderful life as Mr. Hume I would die a happy man. All of Schuylerville is coming to his funeral on Friday the Super Intendent is giving all students in the jr. sr. high the day off. You will be missed and loved by your students for years to come. Farewell Mr. Hume.

I had Mr. Hume in my 10th grade history class. In fact, he was the first and only teacher to ever kick me out of class. He did it to teach me a lesson though, and I never talked during a test again. He was a truly amazing individual and with one simple smile, he made my day whenever I saw him in the hallway. Up until my last day of highschool he'd say "hi hon how are you". It is amazing how many people truly loved him and were taught so much by him. He already is and will be greatly missed by so many people. R.I.P Mr Hume, always in our hearts.

My deepest sympathies and condolences to Pete's family and close friends. I only knew of him through my son who had him as his Social Studies teacher this year. Pete left a distinct impression on him, as I understand he did with everyone he knew. When my son would speak of him (almost daily) you could tell that Pete quickly connected with, and gained the respect of, all his students. Although I never met Pete, I feel a personal loss over his passing. My prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. May God bless you and comfort you all in this time of mourning.
