Donald Lyons Obituary

Lyons, Donald E. COLONIE Donald E. Lyons, 61, passed away at home on Monday, October 22, 2007. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Maurice and Mary Lyons. He was raised in Rensselaer where he graduated from St. John's High School. Mr. Lyons resided in Colonie for 20 years. His gregarious personality made him a popular bar man at the Lamp Post Restaurant, Son's Tavern, the Italian American Community Center and Martel's Restaurant. Don loved spending time at his camp on Sacandaga Lake, where he especially enjoyed fireworks on the 4th of July. Don loved traveling and spending time with his daughter, Justine. In addition to his daughter, Justine Lyons of Colonie, he is survived by his brother, Robert Lyons of Rensselaer. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Kathleen (Eric) Deguile, Steven (Theresa) Lyons and Riley, Kelsey and David Lyons. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Friday, October 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A memorial service, at which all friends and family will be welcome, is to be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers and at the request of his family, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the Regional Food Bank, 965 Albany Shaker Rd., Latham, NY 12110 in memory of Donald E. Lyons. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone from Donny's family.
I first met Donny over 30 years ago. When he worked at Duck Soup and then the Lamp Post. He was always a great person to spend time with.

I met Donny back in the 1975 at Duck Soup in Rensselaer. He was the Master of a good pour, which led to an immediate bond that lasted these thrity odd years. He will be remembered as a good man with a big heart. My sympathy to his family.

We met Don almost 2 years ago when our property was next to Don (& Karla's) camp and am sorry we didn't know him sooner. Don was a likable person right from the beginning. He was a good person. Justine, our hearts ache with you. May you find comfort in knowing God at this time of sorrow. We will miss Don when we go up to the lake, especially on the 4th of July.

Our camp on Great Sacandaga Lake was just down the hill from Don's. We couldn't ask for a better friend or neighbor. We had over ten years of good times and good conversations. Justine, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
