Jean Felt Obituary

Felt, Jean S. DELMAR Jean Snyder Felt departed this world peacefully on October 25, 2007, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease and complications from diabetes. Born in Kenton, Ohio in 1930, Jean was the daughter of Barton and Marie Snyder, publishers of the Ada Herald newspaper. Shortly after receiving her B.A. from the College of Wooster, Ohio, she married her college sweetheart, Tom Felt in 1952 and raised three children. After a divorce in 1974, she earned a master's of library science from the University at Albany and pursued a 16-year career at the NYS Department of Social Services. There, she contributed substantially to the development and communication of policy in the area of foster child care, and was awarded a Decade of the Child medal by the department upon her retirement. Jean was a devoted member of the Delmar Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years, leading the church's outreach committee, serving on the session, guest preaching, and playing the organ on many occasions. Jean is survived by her brother Daniel of Findlay, Ohio; three children, George Felt of Moultonboro, N.H., Suzanne Felt-Lisk of Arlington, Va. and Kathryn Greenwood of Troy, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 4 at 2 p.m. at the Delmar Presbyterian Church (address follows). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Delmar Presbyterian Church at 585 Delaware Ave., Delmar, NY 12054 or the American Diabetes Association at (800) 342-2383 (www.diabetes.org)
