Terri Saffares Obituary

Saffares, Terri R. LATHAM Terri R. Saffares, of Latham, died in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, Albany, following a heroic battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was the widow of the late Thomas J. Saffares. Born and educated in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Kilderhouse Sunday. She resided in Troy for many years. She and Tom achieved their dream of homeownership and moved to Latham in 1962. They resided there until Tom's death in 1996. With her sparkling personality and movie star looks, Terri was engaged in the restaurant business for her whole life. Terri's professional accomplishments included being employed as a hostess, from 1982 to 1987, at the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Fla., where she and her husband spent a part of each year. She previously worked as a waitress for 16 years at Kirker's Steak House in Latham, at the former Toma's Restaurant for 10 years, and at Smith's restaurant in Cohoes. Terri also dazzled customers at Sleasman's Hoffbrau in Latham, a restaurant owned by her husband, Tom, and his brothers. No matter where she was employed, she had a loyal following. Rather than receiving service from others, her customers would opt to wait for one of "Terri's tables." Terri was an avid "consumer" of life. She brought fun and laughter wherever she went. In addition to enjoying her cocktails, Terri enjoyed traveling and being with people. Terri truly lived her motto - "Live, Love, Laugh." She was a communicant of both Our Lady of the Assumption and St. Ambrose Churches in Latham. She was devout in her beliefs and relied heavily on prayers to the Blessed Mother. She was a member of the Colonie Seniors and the Colonie Elks. She is survived by four daughters, Patricia (Richard) Kushner of Melbourne, Fla., Barbara Saffaras of Troy, Donna Saffares of Latham and Terri Jean Saffares of Atlantic City, N.J. Terri is predeceased by her granddaughter, the late Mary Jo Valenti. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Anthony (Madeline) Valenti of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Thomas Valenti (Jennifer) of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Frank Mantello of East Greenbush, Justine Mantello of Latham, Joseph Esposito of Troy, Jody Petitti (Ernie) of Wynant-skill, Nicholas Schepps of Latham and Donna Lee Landy of Latham. Finally, Terri is survived by 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Her funeral will be held from the Bowen Funeral Home, 97 Old Loudon Road, Latham on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, Latham where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment will follow in Memory's Garden, Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 7 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Eddy Day Break in Cohoes in memory of Terri R. Saffares. Best Friends Forever- Terri & Amber

Terri was a dear "Best Friend Forever," and will always be with me in spirit and in my heart.

So sorry to the family for your loss.

I had to come back and add a picture. Even though I moved away I made sure to see T.J. when I visited NY. This picture was taken in 2002 I believe.

In Terri's words, "Age never matters," " "BFF, Best Friends Forever!" "Never go to bed angry." and always S.W.A.K.

To "TJ" 's family and all who loved her,

The world has lost an extaordinary DOLL! A precious loyal friend with a sparkling personality, warm and wonderful to everyone. We worked together for many years, stayed very close friends over the years and her impact on my life will be with me forever.

I regret lossing contact with her in the last year, (I guess when she moved) and not being able to be there for her in the last months.

She always remembered me and made me feel so special and loved. We'd remenise about our glory days together, over and, and over again.

I will never forget her smile, her tears and her impact on all who knew her.

Until we meet again..

Cheers Terri!

Donna & Family,
I am so very sorry to hear about your mom's passing. I remember her so well. Oh that smile, that laugh. How lucky you all are to have had her in your life. I remember your mom & dad together. How they adored each other. How she saved her money to take him away every year on vacation. Your all in my thoughts today as I write this. God Bless all of you. God Bless your mom for she is now with your dad, safe & loved.
