Vincent Capasso Obituary

Capasso, Vincent SCHENECTADY Vincent Capasso, 87, formerly of Hawthorne Street, Schenectady, at rest Thursday, November 1, 2007 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, N.Y. Born in Frattamaggiore, Italy, Vincent was the son of the late Innocenzo and Palma Capasso. He served as an officer in the Italian Army and was a decorated war hero. Vincent came to the United States in 1947, and shortly after his arrival, began work as a machinist with General Electric, where he was employed for over 35 years. He was an active member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was also a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club. A person who enjoyed life to the fullest, Vincent especially enjoyed bowling, gardening, bocci, pinochle and singing to his family and friends. He was a dedicated and loving, husband, father, grandfather, family member and friend. He greatly enjoyed spending time with and entertaining his family. He was the loving husband of almost 55 years to the late Mary Carmela Capasso who passed away on June 4, 2005. He was the beloved father of Vincent Capasso Jr. and his wife Janice, Palma Sciarrino and her husband Joseph, all of Glenville; loving grandfather of Vincent Richard Capasso, Matthew Daniel Martin and Nicholas Michael Martin; beloved brother of Nancy Papa and her husband Tom of Gloversville and the late Guistina Paretta, John Capasso, Modestina D'Ambrosio, Josephine Canini and Anthony Capasso. Vincent is the beloved brother-in-law of Amelia Dufel and her husband Floyd of Schenectady, Ramona Capasso of Gloversville, Michael Sauchello, Ann Sardella and her husband Angelo, Adeline Rizzo and her husband Peter, all of Schenectady; and is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to the Ellis Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility for the excellent care Vincent received during his brief stay, and also the staff of Beacon Pointe Memory Care Community, Clifton Park, for the loving treatment he received in a home like atmosphere, over his extended stay there. The family is particularly grateful to Father Robert Hohenstein for his pastoral care and concern for Vincent. Calling hours will be held Monday, November 5, 2007 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Avenue, Rotterdam. Funeral services will begin Tuesday, 8 a.m. at the funeral home followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Vincent will be entombed in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna. Contributions in Vincent's memory may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, NY 12303.
