Constance Devitt Obituary

Devitt, Constance M. SARATOGA SPRINGS Constance Murphy Devitt, 93, died November 2, 2007. Formerly of Ravena, she was the wife of the late Donald DeForrest Devitt. Connie was born August 22, 1914 in Potsdam, N.Y., daughter of Paul Beard Murphy and Jessie Johnson Murphy. She attended schools in Potsdam and Syracuse and graduated with a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1937. She was an associate prfessor in fine arts for two years at Ohio Wesleyan and a draftsman for Niagara Hudson in Syracuse. She was married to Donald DeForrest Devitt April 2, 1949 and lived in Dewitt, N.Y. and Ravena. She moved to Wesley Complex in Saratoga in 1991. Connie was an active alumnae of Alpha Gamma Delta fraternity, and charter member of Hannakrois Chapter of DAR. She had a lifetime keen interest in family genealogy, instigating cousins into writing a nine generation "Family History", published in 2003. She was an artist who painted primarily floral and still life in watercolors and oils. Mrs. Devitt is survived by her daughter, Barbara Devitt of Wilsonville, Ore.; son, Albert F. Devitt of Vista, Calif.; three grandchildren, Adam Truesdale of Maine, Scott Truesdale, Fla. and Kimberly Truesdale of Niagara Falls; two sisters, E. Ann Laurien of Williamsville, N.Y. and Jane Hum of Bomoseen, Vt.; several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. November 10, 2007 at Wesley Chapel in Wesley Manor, Saratoga, the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Private burial service in Weedsport, N.Y.

Mrs. Devitt was my neighbor for several years in Ravena. Always called me Mr. French even though I'm 50 years younger than she,always a lady. We had some great conversations. I will miss her.
