David Osterhoudt Obituary

Osterhoudt, David C. COXSACKIE David C. Osterhoudt, age 94, of the Village of Cox-sackie, died Monday afternoon, November 5, 2007 at Eden Park Nursing Home, Cat-skill, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rhinebeck, N.Y. on October 2, 1913, he was the son of the late William P. and Rosa Lee (Dann) Osterhoudt. He was married on May 14, 1942 in Ellenville, N.Y. to Marjorie (Cointot)_Osterhoudt, who survives at home. Mr. Osterhoudt was a graduate of the University of Alabama. He was a teacher of math and science at the Coxsackie Correctional Facility until his retirement in 1975. He served our country during World War II in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of technical sergeant. Stationed in Europe, Italy and Germany, he was in charge of the X-ray department. He was awarded the Bronze Star in 1943. At the presentation, he was commended for his "devotion to duty, his cheerful cooperation, his mechanical ingenuity, unfailing good judgement and his teaching and inspiration to others," qualities that followed him throughout his life. He was a member of the Coxsackie American Legion Post and Scoresby Hose Company of Ellenville, N.Y. He enjoyed horseshoes and bowling, was active in bowling leagues in Ellenville, Coxsackie and Fla. He and Marjorie were members of the Dusty Travelers NCHA Campers Association. A former member of the Ellenville United Methodist Church, he was a very active and devoted member of the Coxsackie United Methodist Church, serving on the administrative board and as president and member of the board of trustees. In addition to his wife of 61 years, Marjorie, he is survived by their son, William and his wife Inge Osterhoudt of Slingerlands and their daughter Susan and her husband Dennis Fish of Ithaca, N.Y. Three grandchildren also survive, Amy Fish, Stephanie and Christopher Osterhoudt. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the United Methodist Church, 103 Mansion Street, Coxsackie. A service commemorating Dave's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be private at a later date. The family suggests memorial donations in Dave's name be made to the Coxsackie United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Sopris-Murray Funeral Home, Greenville, N.Y.

Marge - I was sorry to hear about Dave, but I know you have such wonderful, fond memories of the life you shared with Dave. I enjoyed hearing about your camping trips, your church work together, etc. Now let God hold you in His loving arms and comfort you. God Bless you my dear sister in Christ, Patty Thayer
