Donald Smith Obituary

Smith, Donald E. EAST GREENBUSH Donald E. Smith of East Greenbush, died suddenly Thursday, November 8, 2007 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany. Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Margaret and James Smith. He was educated in the Lansing-burgh schools. He and his brother, James, enlisted in the U.S. Navy together. Don saw service in France, Germany, Iwo Jima and Cuba and later during the Korean War. He was a member of the Melvin Roads American Legion Post #1231 in East Greenbush. Don was employed by GAF Co. and later by BASF Corp. for 34 years. After his retirement, he worked part time as a courier for Blackman and DeStefano Real Estate. Don took great pride in the success of his children and loved being with his grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Joyce (Earon) Smith; father of Steve (Cheryl) Smith of Dallas, Texas, Donna Lexell of Sarasota, Fla., Marianne (Todd) Wilhelm of East Greenbush; and six grandchildren, Jennifer (Dr. Brian) Braaksma of Chicago, Ill., Tara and Ashley Smith of Dallas, Texas, Jordan and Garrett Lexell of Fla. and Matthew Jones of East Greenbush; brother of Lewis Smith of Troy, Delores Lattimore of Cohoes and the late James Smith. Funeral will be from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home, 1700 Washington Avenue, Rensselaer Monday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at the Church of St. Mary's at Clinton Heights where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. to the smith family I am very sorry for your loss. don was a very happy and out going guy. I grew very fond of don at bingo on monday night at the melvin road bingo. he would kid away with me and my mom. he had a very nice personality. i will miss him very much. i was very upset when i was told he had passed away. he will be greatly missed.rosemary berghela
