W. Henningson Obituary

Henningson, W. Robert WYNANTSKILL Walter Robert Henningson, 91, of Powell Street, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness. Born in Essex Junction, Vt., he was the son of the late Charles K. Henning-son and Emma (Larsen) Henningson and husband of the late Marion M. (Lawson) Henningson. He was raised in Troy and graduated from Troy High School in 1935 in both college entrance and technical, attended Asbury College and later earned his bachelor's degree from Siena College in economics with a concentration in math and his master's in management engineering from RPI in 1965. Mr. Henningson worked in the Grand Union Warehouse, was quality control manager for the tape divisions at Behr-Manning in Watervliet and Technical Tape in Carbondale, Ill., was part owner of National Tape in Marion, Ill. and later N.J. and implemented the cloth tape facility for Shuford Mills in Hickory, N.C. He later was an educator, realtor and worked for the IRS. He taught in the business and math departments of Gardner-Webb, Cleveland Tech and was manager of housekeeping at Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was on the baseball and football teams at Troy High School, on a semi-pro football team, was a member of the Jackson Country Club in Murphysboro, Ill., the MOOSE Lodge in Hickory, and was an avid reader, lifelong learner and golfer, had an interest in alternative medicine and, with his wife, built four homes. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by two daughters, Margaret C. (the late Haig) Sunukjian of Defreestville and Kathryn A. Henningson of Wynantskill; three grandchildren, Alan H. (Nancy) Sunukjian of Waterford, Donna M. (Brett) MacKay of Latham and Robert M. (Rachel) Sunukjian of Apex, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Mary Christina, Michael Haig and Armen Augustus Sunukjian; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, John M., Peter W., George H., Charles H. and Arthur N. Henningson, Elsie E. and Florence J. Henningson and Helen K. Hanor. A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy with Rev. Karyl Hopp, officiating. All will gather at the Gardner Earl Chapel prior to 2 p.m. Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Henningson to the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Avenue, Menands, NY 12204.
