John Mitchell Obituary

Mitchell, John J. Jr. SCHENECTADY John J. Mitchell, 69, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 7, 2007. John was born on February 21, 1938 in Albany, N.Y. and was the son of the late John and Anastasia (Keenan) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Draper High and Hudson Valley Community College and served in the U.S. Army Reserves. John was a New York State trooper and retired after 20 years of service. At the time of his death, he was employed by 4th District Office of Court Administration at the Schenectady County Courthouse. John leaves his beloved wife, of 47 years, Margaret C. (Sedgwick) Mitchell; and three sons, David M. (Norma Jean) Mitchell of Rotterdam, Craig T. (Lori) Mitchell of Ormond Beach Fla., Brian P. (Kelly) Mitchell of Ellicott City, Md.; and former daughter-in-law, Denise Ruxton of Rotterdam. He was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Janessa Mitchell, Angela Mitchell, Shannon Mitchell, Kate Mitchell, Joseph Mitchell, Lydia McKane, Zachary Mitchell, Sydney Mitchell, Chanel Mitchell, Evan McKane and Samuel Mitchell. He also leaves behind his sisters and brothers, Patricia Trathen, Gerald T. (Charmain) Mitchell, William (Margaret) Mitchell, Robert E. (Patricia) Mitchell and Eileen (Lyle) Eldred. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. John was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Lodge #2157, the NYS Troopers PBS and NYS Former Troopers Association. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 10:00 at St. Joseph's Church , 600 State St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be held at Newcomer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rte. 155-south of Central Ave.) on Friday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, 1111 Stewart Ave., Bethpage, NY 11714 or City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305 in memory of John. Marge and family,

I'm sorry to hear of John's passing. He was a good guy and lots of fun to be around. We spent time together playing cards and racquetball and he was always a gentleman with a nice sense of humor.
