Courtland Hart Obituary

Hart, Courtland C. NASSAU Courtland C. Hart, 87, of Nassau, N.Y., died Thursday, November 22, 2007 at Albany Medical Center Hospital. Born in Grand Rapids, Mich. and a lifelong resident of Nassau, Mr. Hart was the son of the late Harold and Hazel Burns Hart and the husband of the late Perpetua Cools-Lartigue and Annette Dearstyne. Mr. Hart was educated in the Kinderhook School System, graduating in 1938. He then joined the United States Army Signal Corps, achieving the rank of warrant officer during World War II, where he served in Antigua, New Guinea and the Philippines. Mr. Hart was employed at Plastic Extruded Parts. He was a radio engineer at Albany Medical Center with WAMC for 25 years. Upon his retirement from WAMC, Mr. Hart worked for McGinnis Electric and subsequently Troy Light Company. Mr. Hart had many interests which included flying as a licensed pilot. He played the harmonica, clarinet, chanter, trombone, bass fiddle and the bagpipes. Mr. Hart was a member of the First Methodist Church of East Greenbush where, with his love of music, he was a member of the choir. Mr. Hart loved firearms and was an accomplished gunsmith and collector, a lifetime member of the NRA and a life member of the Hendrick Hudson Fish and Game Corporation. Survivors include five sons, Alan Hart, Ian Hart and Kevin Hart of Nassau, Brian Hart of Niskayuna and Colin Hart of Queensbury; two daughters, JoAnn Hart of Miami, Fla. and Dian Swierzowski of Albany; three stepchildren, Marc Dear-styne of Auburn, Gay Hailey of Schenectady and Laurel Attey of Deltona, Fla.; a brother, Robert Hart of Nassau; and a sister, Dorothy King of Nassau; 14 grandchildren; five great-grand-children; many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hart was the brother of the late Marion Sanford. It was Mr. Hart's wish to donate his body to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial service for Mr. Hart will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2007, 4:00 p.m. at the First Methodist Church of East Greenbush, 6 Gilligan Road. Donations in memory of Mr. Hart may be made to the Anatomical Gift Program of AMC, Attention: Development Office, 43 New Scotland Avenue, Albany, NY 12208.
