Adele Mazloom Obituary

Mazloom, Adele Sarah ALBANY Adele Sarah Mazloom, 81, died November 23, 2007 at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, N.Y. after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Abdo and Nazha (Zogby) Mazloom. Survivors include her brothers, Fred J. (Mary) Mazloom, Paul S. (Gina) Mazloom and Albert S. (Elinor) Mazloom; as well as her nieces and nephews, James (Paulette) Salamy, Deacon Paul A. Salamy, Joanne (Michael) Hajec, Teresa (Scott) Wojnas; Paul (Diana) Mazloom Jr., Peter (Valerie) Mazloom, Camley (Gregory) Delach, Joseph (Meghan) Mazloom, Jennifer Mazloom, Stephanie Mazloom; Albert (Eunice) Mazloom III, Andrew Mazloom and David Mazloom. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Richard P. Mazloom; a sister, Nabiha Mazloom; and a niece, Mrs. Paul (Mary Sue) Salamy. Adele graduated from Le-Moyne College and continued her lifelong relationship with them as an active alumna. She worked for the NYS Division of Equalization and Assessment, retiring in 1991. Adele's circle of friends included high-ranking religious leaders, clergy, diplomats, state officials, business leaders and educators. She was a longtime member of the Albany Roman Catholic Commission for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Affairs serving as a liaison between the Eastern and Western Catholic Churches in the NYS Capital Region. Her Lebanese background and roots in the local Maronite Catholic communities brought forth a post-Vatican II request from the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese to establish a Roman Catholic-Orthodox Committee. Rev. Owen Bennett, O.F.M joined with her in establishing such a committee, of which she was the co-chair. The committee was recognized by the Vatican as the first grass roots group of its kind. Adele assisted in the formation of the National Apostolate of Maronites (NAM), an organization of the Maronite Laity, of which she was a perpetual member and recipient of its prestigious Silver Massabki Medal. She assisted in the formation of Our Lady of Lebanon Seminary in Washington, D.C. and was a perpetual member of the Order of St. Sharbel. She also assisted in the youth ministry for the Eparchies of St. Maron of Brooklyn and Our Lady of Lebanon of Los Angeles. She was a strong supporter and member of the Maronite National Choir. Adele enjoyed traveling, especially her many trips to Lebanon. She leaves many dear and close friends in the Capital District. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Tuesday evening from 5-8 and Wednesday morning from 9 -10 at Myslinski Funeral Home, 470 French Rd., Utica. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:00 from the funeral home and 11:00 from St. Louis Gonzaga Maronite Catholic Church where Adele's dear and close friend, Father Jack Morrison, will celebrate the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed along with her nephew, Deacon Paul Salamy. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, she has requested that donations be made to either the Restoration Fund of the Albany Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Jude Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon, or Our Lady of Lebanon Seminary in Washington, D.C. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
