Mr. Deacon was my favorite patient at Barnwell. Every day that I worked, Mr. Deacon made me smile and made me enjoy being at work. He was always so witty and could put all of the nursing staff in stitches. In the short amount of time I got to know him, I could tell he was a good man with a very sweet disposition.
He will be truly missed.
To the family: I am very sorry for your loss.

There are no words to express my sadness on the passing of a friend and a great mentor to me. John took me under his wing during the darkest days in the Office of Real Property Services. He always told me that the only way to learn was to keep my mouth shut and listen. He taught me most of what I knew about the work that we were responsible for. I shall always be grateful for his guidance and counsel in his union role, as well as his professional duties. John and I spent many a day in the field working on Industrial Plants all across the state. Every day he spoke of his family and was a very proud husband, father and grandfather. It has been an honor and privilige to have known him.
