Lewis Sanders Obituary

Sanders, Lewis C. COLONIE Lewis C. Sanders of Colonie, N.Y. passed away unexpectedly Monday morning, December 3, 2007, at his home. Born in Amsterdam, N.Y., he was the son of Lewis D. and Margaret Klous Sanders. Lewis was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. During World War II, Lewis served as a Sergeant with the United States Air Force stationed in Italy. After the war, Lewis went to work at General Electric Co. in Schenectady for over 42 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Beukendaal Lodge No. 915 F&AM, St. George's Lodge No. 6 F&AM. He was a member and past master of the former Christopher Yates Lodge F&AM, a member of the Old Seventeenth Past Masters Association, the Cyprus Shriners of Albany, the Schenectady Shrine Club, the Cyprus Air and Motor Patrol, the Royal Order of Jesters Albany Court 77, and was a member of the Rotterdam Elks Club. In his free time Lewis enjoyed golfing, bowling and loved the outdoors where he liked to go hunting and fishing. Lewis is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Idabelle Sanders; and several nieces, and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Burial will take place in the Saratoga National Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home where a Masonic Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
