Richard Gerard Obituary

Gerard, Richard H. COLONIE Richard Herman Gerard, 83, passed away on Monday, December 3, 2007. He was born February 20, 1924 on Old Johnson Rd. in Voorheesville, the son of the late Herman and Luella Gerard. Dick graduated from Albany High School in 1941 and went to work for the D & H Railroad on the next day. He served as an aviation ordinance 1st class in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the Marshal Islands from 1942 through 1946. Upon return from his decorated military service, he returned to D & H railroad. Dick worked with the New York State Department of Social Services from 1969 until his retirement in 1990. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lillian Norton Gerard; his children, Richard A. Gerard, Jeffrey C. (Kathy) Gerard and Lynn (Matt) Walkuski. He is the cherished grandfather of Jeffrey R. Gerard, Rachel N. and John M. Walkuski. Dick's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to the wonderful dedicated staff at Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home for their genuine care and compassion. Funeral services will be private. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in Memory's Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of Sarah Nursing Home, 180 Washington Ave. Ext., Albany NY 12203 in memory of Richard H. Gerard.
