Walter Johnson Obituary

Johnson, Walter C. MECHANICVILLE Walter C. Johnson, 78, of Farm to Market Road, died Monday, December 3, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital, Troy, after being stricken at his residence. Born in Troy, May 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Casimir and Mary Laba Johnson. He grew up on the Johnson family's Farm to Market farm, and was a 1946 graduate of Mechanicville High School. Mr. Johnson, his brother and his late parents operated a large dairy farm his entire life, retiring due to disability a number of years ago. Mr. Johnson was a charter member and former treasurer of the Hillcrest Fire Department, was a member of the Saratoga County Farm Bureau and Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church of Ushers. Walt was an avid vegetable gardener, was proud to keep his residence and yard in a well-groomed condition, enjoyed the company of his friends and loved his daughters, their husbands and children and adored his two great-granddaughters. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Helen T. Bielawa Johnson; his two daughters and their husbands, Susan and James Fuschino Jr. of Mechanicville, Kathy and Jeff Smith of Florence, S.C.; grandchildren, James (Meghan) Fuschino III of Mechanicville and Sarah Smith of S.C., and great-granddaughters, Isabella and Sophia Fuschino; also survived by his brother, Roman and wife Ruth Johnson of Mechanicville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Mary Ann Bielawa of Latham and Linda and Louis Santa Barbara of No. Greenbush; along with several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, Route 9 and Ushers Road, Ushers. Burial in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Watervliet. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Remembrances may be made to either Corpus Christi Church Building Fund or Hillcrest Fire Department, in loving memory of Walter C. Johnson.
