Raynald Maynard Obituary

Maynard, Raynald A. GROVESIDE Raynald Alcide Maynard, 80, a longtime resident of Quaker Street, died suddenly Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after being stricken at his residence. Born February 26, 1927 in Granby, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Claude and Rose (Saint-Denis) Menard and the husband for over 29 years of Donna Lee (Bornt) Maynard of Groveside who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Maynard were married on February 11, 1978. Mr. Maynard attended Averill Park High School through ninth grade and later returned to school to earn his diploma. From April 1943 through May 1944, he worked as a stock clerk at the former Cluett, Peabody and Company in Troy. On May 2, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was a veteran of World War II. After being stationed in Sampson, N.Y. and Shoemaker, Calif., he served aboard the USS Cowpens (CVI 25) and participated in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre and in the Liberation of the Philippine Islands. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Coxswain V-6 on February 9, 1946. After returning home, he was self-employed as an auto body mechanic, running shops in Troy, Cohoes and Crescent. He later worked as an auto body technician for several Chevrolet dealerships including the former Bumstead's of Troy and Marsh Hallman's in Albany and most recently for Action Chevrolet in Brunswick. Mr. Maynard retired in 1986. He was a communicant of St. George Roman Catholic Church, a former member of the West Crescent Fire Company, and the Hillside Cemetery Association of Raymertown. In his quiet time, he enjoyed the hobbies of tying flies and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children and their spouses, Raynald "Tom" May-nard of Poestenkill, Mike and Linda Maynard of Colonie, Dierdre and Donald Benoit of Waterford, Dean and Stacie Salvi of Mechanicville, Randall Maynard of Rochester and Roland and Karie Maynard of Buskirk; two sisters, Florence McLoughlin of Troy and Cecile Potvin of Canada; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Two sisters, Florence McLoughlin, formerly of Troy, and Cecile Potvin, formerly of Canada, predeceased him. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 10, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Howard B. Tate & Son Funeral Home Inc., 2237 NY Route 7, located in Raymertown, with Fr. Donald Kelly officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuy-lerville. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions if desired may be made to the Pittstown Volunteer Emergency Corps, 60 Parker School Road, Johnsonville, NY 12094 in memory of Raynald A. Maynard.
