James Maher Obituary

Maher, James M. MECHANICVILLE James M. Maher, 27, of Green St., died from the injuries sustained in a fall in Batavia, N.Y. on Saturday, November 7, 2009. James was in Batavia attending the VA of Western New York sponsored PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) Clinic. Born in Saratoga Springs, July 17, 1982, son of Michael Maher and Janet (Tony) Amoroso, all of Mechanicville. James was a 2000 graduate of Mechanicville High School. James joined the Army Reserves, and served a number of months security patrol tour of duty in Manhattan, following September 11, 2001. Later, his unit, U.S. Army 101st Armored Division, was activated and James served an 11 month tour in Iraq, earning the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Army Achievement Medal, among others. After being released, James worked at several mortgage brokerage firms in the Capital Region, and lastly worked for Royal Pharmaceuticals of Malta. Growing up, James was always the "daredevil" of the group, enjoyed bridge jumping, parachute jumps and parasailing, or as his family says, "The faster and higher, the better". Survivors in addition to his parents include his brother, Michael and sister, Stephany, both of Mechanicville; along with many friends; and his canine companion, Puggles. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Assumption-St. Paul North Main St. Church, Mechanicville. Burial with military honors, at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Calling hours at the DeVito-Salvadore Funeral Home, 39 So. Main St., Mechanicville on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in James honor, to the Jack Wisby PTSD Clinic, c/o Dr. Paul Harrigan, VAWNY Health Clinic, 222 Richmond Ave., Bldg. 5, Batavia, NY 14020.

You were the best brother I could have asked for. I wish I could have saved you and saved you from all your pain. Even if every time it didnt seem it I can assure I was watching over you. Im empty without him, and I just dont how to move on. There were so many more times I should have called you and should have told you instead of being afraid of you being mad because my biggest fear was losing my best friends and loved so much.

My deepest sympathy to The Maher family. It seems like yesterday I would see James in the hallways at school with the biggest smile on his face. What a perfect smile...It will be remembered. The prom, he was the perfect date ever! Not to long ago we were dancing our hearts out on the dance floor at the Horseshoe in Saratoga. All these memories I will hold in my heart and cherish forever. Thank you James for sharing these memories with me...

James always had a smile on his face, even when he was getting into trouble. Most of my memories come from school, but I do remember the washington trip we took. Those boys were having the time of their lives. I am very honored to have been apart of his life, and a distant friend. I will miss laughter, I will miss his smile, I will miss his vibrant soul. Rest In Peace James

we had rented some movies from blockbuster at one time, me, Kramer, james and Jim my roomate. It was Interesting as none of us had a membership at the blockbuster at the time but James did. But I managed to convince him to rent the movie "Ice Age 3" which if you all get a chance to watch I highly recommend it. the one eyed character in it is alot like James, we had commented that it would be a great line to tell Doc harrigan that when he asked James how his weekend went that he would reply by telling him that he "wasn't sure but he woke up married to a pineapple on sunday!" It was a great movie and we had alot of laughs. It was great to be able to spend time with James he was one of the few people that I was able to connect with, and it means so much to me that I was able to. I wish I had words to write here as to the feelings I'm going through but nothing comes now. missed and forever a part of my memories. a great person. god bless you James thanks for being there.

Fiddler's Green
Halfway down the trail to Hell,
In a shady meadow green
Are the Souls of all dead troopers camped,
Near a good old-time canteen.
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddlers' Green.

Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene.
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen.
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green.

James, it was an honor to serve next to you. Rest In Peace.
