Derek Lawrence Obituary

Lawrence, Derek R. MECHANICVILLE Derek Ryan Lawrence, 23, of Eleanor Court, died suddenly on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 at his residence. He was born in El Paso, Texas on September 29, 1983 and was the beloved son of Pamela J. (Daniel) Drislane of Mechan-icville and Michael R. (Robin) Lawrence of Marsh-field, Mass. He was a graduate of Shenendehowa High School Class of 2001, attended SUNY at Oswego and Hudson Valley Community College. While in high school, Derek enjoyed playing soccer, football and basketball. He was a plainsman football player from the age of six until 11th grade. Derek was a downhill skier and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan as well as a New England Patriots fan. He was a computer design specialist, having started his own computer company at the age of 16. He is the devoted brother and best friend of Brittany Nicole Lawrence of Albany, Daniel T. Drislane of Mechanicville, Lia Simone of Niskayuna and Carolyn and Lauren Drislane, both of Waterford; maternal grandson of Cecelia Buchanan of Pembrook Pines, Fla. and the late A. Richard Blumenthal; paternal grandson of the late Edward and Dorothy Lawrence; godson of Marcy Schwartz of Cooper City, Fla. and Edward Lawrence of Hanson, Mass.; also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park with the Rev. Martin Fisher, pastor of Corpus Christi Church in Ushers, officiating. Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn., P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13220-3049.

I remember when being humiliated as a 13 year old when your dad would make me sit next to you at the dinner table because the whole family knew I had a monster crush on you. :o) Thank you for the many long talks we had, you never failed to make me feel understood. I will always cherish the frienship we had. My conch shell sits in my bedroom where I can see it all times.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Derek's passing. Although it had been a while since I had seen Derek, we still kept in touch every now and then and were always able to pick up right where we left off. He had always been a great friend to me and I consider myself lucky to have spent the time with him that I did. They say you never forget the first boy you kissed and this is true, as I smile back on all the memories that we shared. How sad that such a great person had to leave us so soon.

Anyone who knew Derek knew he was was a great person and an even greater friend. He touched my life in so many ways, I can't even begin to explain them. We are all really at a loss right now. He was a true friend and I will never forget him.
