I just heard of Melanie's passing and I am shocked and deeply saddened. What a loss for us all!
Melanie was so good to my girls when we were living in Lansingburgh and attended her Story Hours at the Waterford Library. My girls called her "Miss Melanie" and still (3 years later) talk of her! She left a lasting impression on all of us and I can't imagine the loss her family must feel. I hope that time and memories have helped to heal the pain you undoubtedly feel. You are all in our thoughts.

Dear John and Family,
John, we don't have the words or ability to lighten your pain or remove your heartache. You and Mrs. Leavitt, together, have fostered
a truly wonderful family and that same family will enable you to see
your way through this terrible loss.
I've always known that we gain an insight into the parents character
by watching their children. Mrs.
Leavitt was a wonderful Mother and she was most remarkable in raising
three mature men. These same children will help you John, so lean on them. They have been brought
up by great parents and will lead you out of this darkness.
Take good care and I'll be in touch.

Mr. Kissick

John, and family.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Melanie’s passing.
I remember how happy the two of you were at the functions we attended with the two of you.
The Lord works in mysterious ways and there must be a greater need for her at home with him.
I know it will be hard but try to remember all the good times with her and you will never loose her. She will always be in your heart, and soul. Let me know if you need anything.

Your old Navy friend, Steve.

Melanie was one on the best cousins someone could have. I remember her babysitting me when I was little, writing me letters when she was in college, and most of all the little book she made me when I needed surgery when I was small. I will miss her greatly!1
