Richard Uhl Obituary

UHL Richard "Dick" C. Richard C. Uhl, 85, of LaSalle, MI passed away peacefully on December 1, 2006, at the Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg surrounded by his children. Dick was born in Toledo, Ohio to Clement and Claire (Terveer) Uhl. He attended St. John's High School in Toledo, graduated from Fenwick High School in Chicago, Illinois and went to further his education at the University of Detroit. Dick was a WWII Veteran and served in the United States Army/Air Force. Until the time of his death Dick was the President of Ohio Specialty Manufacturing Company in Toledo. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a longtime member of The Rockwell Springs Trout Club. He was an avid boater and fisherman and loved spending time on Lake Erie either on the deck of his lake house or on his beloved boat 'The Hukilau'. Dick also loved spending time playing cards, or anything else that allowed him to spend time with his family. To Dick, family was the most important thing in life. He always made time to spend with his children, grand children and great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to him as 'Papa Boy'. Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Schoen Uhl; parents, Clement and Claire Uhl; daughter, Nancy J. Stough; son-in-law, Charles Schneider and sisters, Jean Kramer (Harry), Margaret Effler (James) and Constance Uhl. He is survived by his children; Catherine Gorman (Jim) of Chicago, IL, Richard Uhl (Sandy) of LaSalle, MI, Christopher Uhl (Patricia) of Ottawa Lake, MI, Karen Taylor (Thomas) of LaSalle, MI, Martin Uhl (Kathy) of Berkey, OH, Mary Brown (Larry) of Temperance, MI, Deborah Schneider of Blissfield, MI, and Terry Uhl of Toledo, OH; son-in-law Russell Stough of Toledo, OH; brothers Bernard and Phillip (Betty) Uhl and sisters Patricia Harvey and Elizabeth Mueller (Adolph); his 31 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Thanks 'Papa Boy' for your long fight and courage. We are proud of you and thankful for everything you have done. You will truly be missed and forever loved. By the way, thanks for allowing us to win a rare occasional game of hearts. 'Gotta go, gotta go, gotta go'. Private internment will be held on Monday, December 4, 2006. Memorial mass will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 2214 Manhattan Erie, MI. Cathy, Butch, Chris, Karen, Mary, Marty, Deb, Terry and your extended families - I was saddened to hear from my brother Bob last night that your Dad had died. When I was out for his daughter Rosemary's wedding and saw Butch by happenstance, Butch shared with me the challenges your Dad was facing. Although it is difficult accepting that "Papa Boy" is no longer with you, at least his valiant battle is over and he is at peace in heaven with WW and Nancy. Although Capt. Sam has set sail for his ultimate destination, I will be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave me to share a memorable part of the journey. My thoughts and prayers are with you . . .

Cathy, Butch, Chris, Karen, Mary Marty, Deb, Terry and all your extended families - My brother Bob called to say that your Dad had died after his valiant battle. When I saw Butch by happenstance while I was out for my niece's(Bob's daughter) wedding he shared with me how your Dad was dealing with the challenges he faced. I just didn't expect to hear he would be gone so soon. At least he is at peace and with WW and Nancy in heaven. Although Capt. Sam has set sail for his final destination, I will be forever grateful that he allowed me to share a memorable portion of the journey. My thoughts and prayers are with you all . . .

Dear Family members,

We understand your pain but also we understand that your father is no longer in pain. Aunt Mary was waiting for him as well as my mother. We need to remember the good times and celebrate their lives. As you look at your children and grandchildren, you will see in them the love you received from your parents. They are both in heaven now to help you and watch over you. Ask them for help and they will be right there to give you whatever help they can. May the peace you need be yours. Your faith will get you through this.

See you later, Uncle Dick. Say hello to my Mom when you get there. If my Dad's there, say hello to him, also.
Please ask Aunt Mary if she knows where Sandy hid Butch's keys in 1967. If she doesn't know, maybe you could check with St. Anthony. I don't need the keys, I'm just curious. It's been almost thirty years, and Sandy still won't say.
