Irvin Schmidt Obituary

Irvin Mike Schmidt Born March 6, 1932. Passed away suddenly February 16, 2009. Irvin lived an amazingly colorful life, enjoying every moment. From a small farm in Flasher, North Dakota, he worked his way, serving in the Air Force, to see the world. While stationed in Germany in the early '50s he fell deeply in love and married his one true love, Helene, whose passing took a great toll on him. Those who were lucky enough to know Irvin knew his keen mind. An accomplished electronics technician, Irv used his talents for the Department of Defense and Boeing. He established a successful publishing company in the late 1970's, at the very birth of the home computer revolution, devoted to exploring the burgeoning potential of computing. One of Irvin's greatest accomplishments and joys was writing and publishing a family genealogy book, detailing the story of twenty-six German-Russian families and their journey to the United States. An accomplished musician and extremely talented woodworker, he turned his talents to creating items which many people enjoy to this day. Harpsichords, organs, and ornate furniture of all stripes, he made them all. His normal day included playing the organ, tooling around in the woodshop, cooking a fabulous meal, and settling down to a nice book in the evening. Irv will be missed greatly by all who knew him, as well as by his children Kristine Perez (Bob) and Byron (Teresa). Grandchildren Philip and Sophia will especially miss their Opa! Relatives and friends too numerous to name also share our sorrow, but especially Anneliese (Webster) Foreman, whose help over the years has been immeasurable. Services: Saturday February 21st, 2009, 3 PM, Aspen Chapel, Mountain View Memorial Park .

Carol, and all of Irvin's extended family, we could not believe our eyes! We had just played Irvin's piano tape, and shared our joy with Joan Eckroth and her sister, who would like to hear it too. Accept our prayers, Irvin was a special, one of a kind. Blessings,

So sorry to hear of the passing of Irvin. I did not know him only as a distant relative. I purchased and have enjoyed the Family book he wrote, Twice Pioneers. My Mother's parents were German Russians from Karlsruhe, Russia, Fred and Anna Lanz/Lantz Roether. Fred Roether's Aunt was Margaretha Roether Geitzen. I moved to Oregon with my Parents, Henry & Frances Roether Geck in 1946 and have tried to gather family information for some years. Any information on my Grandfather Fred's Dad, Franz, would be greatly appreciated. He was a brother to Margaretha. Our sympathies. Fred & Vangie Geck Ripp
