I have photos from a storage locker I got at auction some years ago that I´m trying to find the family tied to them... they are beautiful and if it were my family I would want them back. Thanks and condolences

I was recently guided to read the obits and found that Melanie had passed away. An immediate image of her in high school came to mind. Although Melanie and I were not in the same grade, we often smiled and said "Hello" to one another. We were both intelligent young woman trying hard to stay on course in life. I then felt compelled to drag out my old high school yearbooks. It was there I found that Melanie had been voted "Most Likely to Succeed" by her 1972 classmates at Park High School. Not a surprise to me. A day later I found myself Googling her name. I wondered if she felt that she HAD "succeeded" in her life, and what she had done. There on the internet I found loving tributes to her, and I read several of her well-written blogs. And, though Melanie and I never did share more than a respectful "Hello", I certainly get the sense that she was a very successful person in her all too short life---She succeeded in touching others with her kindness, her grace, her wit and intelligence, and she never stopped being a strong female voice for Mankind.
To her brothers--Leigh (my former classmate), and Erik--I hope you always remember your sister with pride--and then burst out laughing as you remember her joy of humor. To her mother---I too know of the pain that comes with losing an adult child suddenly. The loss of my own son, Brady, has brought me to a deeper Faith, and a renewed appreciation for the moments in God's Universe that we are each allowed to connect with one another. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
A final thought--Wouldn't it be nice if someone gathered Melanie's favorite recipes into a published cookbook? The proceeds could be donated to research for the cure of pancreatis. Just a thought.

I met Melanie in 1982. I was a clarinet student attending UNC-G band camp the summer before my freshman year there. I remember her as an amazing bassoonist. Her performance of Raymond Gariglio’s “Pavane for an Angel” is memorable to this day (and was the reason I insisted the Mr. Gariglio let me perform the piece on the bass clarinet). After her performance, I overheard her tell Mr. Gariglio that her clothing had gotten stuck in one of her bassoon keys – she played the work standing – and that she’d get all of the notes the next time (she couldn’t have missed more than one or two)! And I remember her always joking around with the other UNC-G music faculty jokester, oboe professor Jim Prodan.
I returned to UNC-G after one summer (1984 or 1985) to find that she was no longer on faculty, a decision that did not sit well with us students. I always wondered what happened to her, but it was no surprise to learn that she had done so many interesting things with her life. I don’t know why I was thinking about her tonight, of all times, after so many years, but to Google her and discover that she had passed away recently – and that her funeral is tomorrow – was pretty unnerving. I had no idea that she was from the Twin Cities; I now live in Minneapolis. It is a true testament to her that someone like me, who knew her really very peripherally, would remember her after over 23 years. I am so sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear about Melanie and I am so grateful to have known her, she was truly a kind and gentle person. Intellect, artistry, and humor were her strengths, and especially remembered will be the good times we had together. Please know that I am deeply saddened by her passing.
