Erik and I join with the many mourning Peter Craig's passing, yet also celebrating the wonderful legacy he has left for the Swedish Colonial Society over many years of contributions. I met Peter about 45 years ago and he was admired by my parents, Alice & Carl Lindborg. May he rest in peace.

The news of Peter Stebbins Craig’s passing on Thanksgiving Day came as a body blow. We saw his health was slipping, but his keen intellect continued to burn bright as a beacon that drew admirers during his lifetime and will continue to do so for generations to come.
Peter’s contributions to the knowledge of New Sweden and the Colonists are immeasurable. His stature as a New Sweden Scholar is such that he had few, if any peers. Peter will be mourned in many circles and certainly his passing creates a void that will not be filled anytime soon.
The Officers and Councillors can feel good that with the recent presentation of the Society’s Lifetime Achievement Award, The Swedish Colonial Society was able to honor his good work and faithful service to our organization while he was here. It is fortunate that so many Swedish Council of America visitors from important institutions throughout the USA were with us in Philadelphia when we honored Dr. Craig.
With sad hearts, the members of the Society join those who are grieving.

Dr. Craig's lectures were a rare opportunity to learn from a great scholar and historian. His books are valued additions to my library. Those of us researching colonial Swedish history and families have lost a great resource. Condolences to the Craig family.

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Craig speak a number of times and shared some e-mail exchanges. His works on early history along the Delaware are treasured works in my genealogy library. His work has helped join many of us together as cousins. He will be missed.

While working with Peter when he served on the board of directors for the Genealogical Society of Pennsylvania, I came to appreciate his brilliant mind and his commitment to both Swedish research in the Delaware Valley and GSP projects. We have lost a wonderful friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Truly, truly, the African proverb is correct:
When an elder dies, a library burns.
Peter Craig's incredible work teasing out the ancient history of the Delaware New Sweden colonists has been a treasure for so many!
Our sympathy goes out to his family.

I shall miss Peter greatly. I met Peter some 27 years ago. He and I spent a dozen week long SAG Conference trips to the Family History Library studying microfilmed records. We had many long discussions about one point or another of New Sweden history. I already miss him.
