James Reeves Obituary



REEVES JAMES H. REEVES, JR. Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) On Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Courtenay Springs Nursing Home on Merritt Island,FL. He was born in Ft. Sam Houston, TX on September 22, 1915. Colonel Reeves graduated from West Point Military Academy in New York in 1937. He served in the European theater of operations with the 102 Infantry Division as commander and division staff officer, later assigned to the Dept. of the Army general staff in Washington, DC. He served as a professor of military service at the Columbian War College in Bogota, Columbia, then later in charge of reserve officer training at colleges, etc. in Virginia. In Korea, he was advisor to the Korean Second Corps and then commanded the 19th Infantry Regiment. Upon returning to the U.S., he served as a deputy commander, then commander of the 12th Corps in charge of Army Reserves in four southeastern states, retiring in 1957. Military decorations included the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. James and his wife moved to Brevard Coutny in1979 from Atlanta, GA, where he had been active in church affairs at the Epiphany Episcopal Church. He was an avid bridge player at the Martin Anderson Senior Center in Rockledge and the Veterans Center in Merritt Island. He was a member of the Rockledge Presbyterian Church. He is survived by two sons, James H. Reeves, III, Anniston, AL and Leonard S. Reeves of Atlanta; a daughter, Margaret R. Ryan of Cocoa, FL; grandchildren, James Reeves, IV, Tina R. Swords, Vicki Willis and Mandy Ryan; four great-grandchildren, Maria Swords, Molly Swords, Tyler Willis and Katie Reeves. James was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Carol Reeves; three infant children, Carol, John and Richard; a brother, Joseph R. Reeves; a sister, Mary R. Johansen; and his parents, James Haynes Reeves, U.S. Army and Katherine Richardson Reeves. Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 11 a.m.
