When Reb was a new 1st Lt, assiged to the Far East Command Signal Service Bn. in Tokyo, he commanded Co. B of the battalion. I was his 1st Sgt. We were a good team and transferred to Co. A. to take over a company which had some problems. I received a direct commission and in 1961 the two of us attended the Signal Officers Advanced Course at Ft. Monmouth, both as captains. He was promoted to Major while attending the course. We kept up with each other over the years. He was in my opinion the finest Army officer I had ever met. I had the pleasure of knowing his family while we were in Japan. The Army lost a fine officer. Claudette lost a wonderful husband. The girls lost a loving father. I lost a dear friend. We are all better because of being a part of his life.
I salute you, old friend. We will meet again in that other life. Meanwhile I cherish my memories of your leadership.

In 1971 (at that time Colonel Barber) was the one who got me my direct commission in Viet Nam, 515 MI Group. I had just made CW2 and he called me in and asked if I had considered a commission. I responded that I did not have degree, was taking some college, etc and did not think I would qualify. He responded by informing me that we were not having a discussion, that he was telling me to submit my packet by COB the next day, which I did. A week later US Army Viet Nam indicated to him that they were in favor, but the Commanding General had concerns about no degree, etc. Barber immediately drove to USARV to discuss and two hours later I was told I would be commissioned the next morning at 0800 - and the rest is history (I am finishing up my 44th year of combined active duty and civilian service in MI) He continued to serve as a mentor as Chief of MI Branch and later at ACSI. He always led by example and stressed integrity as the highest of personal traits. The Army has lost another of its finest. God's Blessings to the Family.

Reb's will always be a great part of life's good side to me. We ventured on many a trip to Pinehurst together. General Reb taught us all that there is more to life than meets the eye and you can not go through it without friends and a round or two of golf and a few laughs. The Pinehurst Cup brings back many great memories for me and the friendships it garnered thanks to Reb. He so enjoyed the trips and the guys and the many stories told over dinner or a cigar on the porch afterwards. May he be hitting them straight down the middle up there and teaching them the proper way to conduct themselves in the company of men. Reb, hope your paving the way and making sure that those fairways and greens are smooth and green for us all someday.
You'll be missed.

Until two years ago, we lived across the street from Reb and Claudette. Reb often sat out front passing time and would see me playing with the kids in the front yard. He commented a few times what a great athlete my oldest daughter was. He really enjoyed watching the kids have fun. Very often, the three of us would see Reb on the swing and cross the street to visit and chat. We dropped by in June on a whim and there he was out front on the swing. Knowing he had been ill for some time, it was great to see him out. It was an honor to know Reb. My daughters, wife and I will miss him.

I met REB when I was on active duty in the Army and was assigned to work for him at the Pentagon when he was the Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Intelligence on the Army staff. When I retired from the Army in 1977, I remember him having told me to look him up and I did and ended up working for Keith Hartell and REB at TRW on the DCA WWMCCS program. Many good memories working with and for REB over the years. Sad to read about his passing. Rest in Peace REB!

I remember Reb as a great patriot, an outstanding professional, and an excellent person. I'll never forget playing golf with him in a few of his "Pinehurst Cup" outings in North Carolina. He was truly one of the Good Guys!

It is with deep sorrow that I learn of this wonderful man's passing. Reb,was a good friend whom I played many rounds of golf and sets of tennis with at Army Navy CC. He was a TRW colleague who mentored me during my early years. He worked and played hard and may GOD be with you forever.

Reb was a good friend to me and the Albertson family in Annandale. I will remember him for his interesting bevy of stories and the keen game of golf that he played. My father and I had the honor to play a round or two with him at Army-Navy CC and a good time was had by all. I am sure he is making a tee time for the great course up above.Rest in Peace, Reb.

It is hard to describe the sadnessI feel. The opportunity to work with Reb at TRW, the times we enjoyed on the golf course with the Canadian Defence Attache. Wonderful memories. Rest in peace my friend.

Reb was a gentle light and a very helping soul. I loved his wit and humor. I knew Reb when he worked for Keith Hartel at TRW on Colshire Ave. May he rest in peace and be remembered for his duty and honor.
