On Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Potomac Hospital. Father of Eamon J. Carrig; brother of Patricia Murray and Jacqueline Madden. Friends may call at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA, on Thursday, August 16 from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. Interment private.

As a college friend of Eamon's, I had the privilege to share conversations, laughs and even meals with Professor Carrig. From the first time I met him, I was inspired; both by his intellect, and his unique approach to fatherhood. His great sense of humor, as well as his generous and warm presence, made N. Jefferson Street THE place to be in Alexandria. He will be sorely missed, but dearly remembered.

I knew Seamus through our shared love of the Irish language. He took a poet's delight in the nuances of meaning found in its idiom--turning the phrases around and around--and helping us enter the imaginative world of his Mayo ancestors. He carried his gifts lightly. We will sorely miss his thoughtful, humble, kind, and genial presence. Slan leat a Sheamuis dhil!
