I was Mr. Jones neighbor since 1993. I lived at 809 next door and have moved since 2006 just a few streets over. Mr Jones was a dear man to me and my family. he watched my kids grow up. they're now 12 and 15.
when we moved in Feb 1993and one of my first encounters with the Jones' was a knock at the front door. I looked out and didn't see anyone. I then looked down a little and noticed this sweet older lady holding a pecan pie. I met his late wife and she welcomed us.
Mr Jones faithfully looked after George all the years I knew him. what a dedicated loving father.
Mr Jones became unable to look after his yard when we moved back in 01. We would always chat on saturdays. Well, As a disciple of Jesus Christ, i was moved when I considered the words of the apostle James," If you want pure and undefiled religion, look after the widows and orphans."
It became my calling to take care of his yard with love with my young son's help since 2001 when we moved back into the house.
As a pilot I have moved a little but coming over and seeing the old house and getting to say hi was a blessing.
Mr. Jones would come over when the kids were young and always bring a gift. He was so loving.
I guess I am sad. I just talked to him a few weeks ago. my son and I trimmed all the bushes and I was trying to teach him the value of hard work.
I loved Mr Jones and I had alot of respect and admiration. My wife grew up with a down syndrome brother who was always institutionalized. We had that in common. I guess that is why I felt so much respect and marveled at how he took George for those walks every day without fail.
Now, he has recieved that crown of righteousness that Christ had waiting.
I know Jesus said, " Well done my good and faithful servant."
I will miss him and as I write I am becoming very upset...I loved him. I can't be the funeral, i have to fly, But say hello to my wife Lora and to Gray, and Taylor my two children who Mr. Jones loved as he did his own.
