Fred Pegram Obituary

Mr. Fred Hester Pegram Sr., 83, passed away at home, the same house in which he was born on June 22, 1922, to James Henry and Bertha Slater Pegram. Mr. Pegram was a big-hearted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and father-in-law. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, especially giving tractor rides and going fishing. Mr. Pegram was a very hard worker and a well-known landscaper in the community in which he never met a stranger. He loved farming, cows, and enjoyed cutting wood. Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Maude Wrights; a sister, Ruth Pegram; and a brother, James Pegram. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Sarah Caudle Pegram of the home; four children, Ann Murtland of Winston-Salem and Judy Jarvis and husband Danny, Fred Pegram Jr., and Ted Pegram and wife Penny, all of Clemmons; six grandchildren, Chris Murtland, Buffy Brown and their father Mike, Jason Jarvis, Savannah Pegram, Madison Pegram and Haley Pegram; two great-grandchildren, Maggie and Lacie Brown; and a very special caregiver, "Clea", who provided care for Mr. Pegram for the past 15 years, is loved and appreciated by the Pegram family. Also surviving are special cousins, Frank and Helen Wrights, Paul and Bobbie Forbus; two sisters, Mabel Sprinkle and husband Odell and Helen Sprinkle and husband Buck, all of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, at Boyer's Chapel Church of Christ Cemetery with Pastor L.C. Taylor, Assistant Pastor Sid Jones and Assistant Pastor Devy Nanholhy officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 this evening, April 23, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Flowers will be accepted. Memorials may be sent to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to send a special thanks to the Hospice staff for the care and support they gave to Mr. Pegram.

Although I never met him, your father and grandfather sounded like a wonderful man. I went to West Forsyth with Ted and Penny and rode the bus with Fred. My dad did Ted and Penny's land survey. So you could say I am an old friend. It is hard to lose a parent, no matter when or how, but the memories we have will live on forever. My mother has been gone almost 3 years, and a day doesn't pass that I don't think of her or feel her influence. May that experience be the same for you.

My thoughts and prayers are with each of you at this time.

I wish I could be with you, but that's not possible so I send my thoughts and prayers.

Love, Gail
