Fred was an outstanding checker player and horseshoe pitcher. I knew him from playing tournament checkers since he was a regular contestant throughout our state tournaments. As secretary of NC Checker Association, I have records showing Mr. Church supported and played checkers for over 40 years. He was a member of American Checker Federation and a Life-Time “200 Club” member of NCCA. Fred held an 1859 ACF rating, he won the 2005 Burlington Tourney, and the Majors in the NC State Open in 1990. Fred was a fine gentleman and a worthy competitor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially the checker players. Our deepest sympathy to his family and relatives and May God bless you all.

Although I did not have the priviledge of knowing Fred, I am acquainted with his brother Bill Church. Bill and his wife Phyllis are in my Sunday School class. I extend my sympathies to them and all the family and relatives in this time of loss and grief. May God bless each one of you.
