William Armstrong Obituary

William "Bill" Edward Armstrong, 65, of Atkins died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at Francis Marion Manor in Marion. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 8 p.m. at Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Neville Mozingo and the Rev. Carl Pauley officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday, Aug. 14, at 11 a.m. at the Slemp Cemetery. He was born Oct. 30, 1942, in Smyth County. He was retired from General Motors after many years of service. He was preceded in death by his father, Rufus S. Armstrong; and a brother-in-law, Elmer Haulsee. Survivors include his loving wife, Wanda Armstrong; two sons, David Mark Armstrong of Chatham, Brian Lee Armstrong and wife Robin of Chilhowie; his mother, Wilma Call Armstrong of Atkins; five brothers, Ronald Lee Armstrong and wife Pauline of Taylor, Mich., Earl Stanley Armstrong and wife Linda of Marion, Wayne Armstrong of Rural Retreat, Patrick Henry Armstrong of Atkins, and Dennis Conley Armstrong of Atkins; four sisters, Peggy Haulsee of Rural Retreat, Ruth Ann Beber and husband Eugene of Atkins, Judy Hall and husband Buddy of Rural Retreat, Pauline Clark and husband Albert of Gaffney, S.C.; two grandchildren, Kevin Armstrong and Jeremy Armstrong; special uncle, Sidney Cruey; special friends, Ray and Maxine Locklear of Pembrooke, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Stony Fork Community Church. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of the arrangements.
